Photodynamic Therapy is an intelligent method in treating aging and sun-damaged skin. It involves the application of a solution on the skin. After a prescribed incubation period, the compounds in the solution are preferentially taken up by sun-damaged cells and are converted to a “photosensitizing agent” inside these cells. This photosensitizing agent is then activated by lights of specific wavelengths, producing a form of oxygen in the tissues that cause the sun-damaged cells to die. New healthier skin cells regrow to replace them.
The following is a brief explanation of Photodynamic Therapy.
